Why this book exists
AI systems are already deciding who gets hired, who gets flagged, who gets approved and who gets left behind.
That isn’t the most interesting part.
The most interesting part is how quickly we learn to live with mistakes. Every society has a threshold, a point where something stops feeling unacceptable and simply becomes how things are.
This book isn’t about artificial intelligence.
It’s about those thresholds.
Because AI doesn’t invent our standards.
It reveals them.
Not fear. Higher standards.
The questions
Technology changes quickly.
Standards rarely do.
This book asks:
- Why do intelligent people accept decisions they know are wrong?
- When a system fails someone, why does the blame land on the person with the least power?
- Why do some failures become scandals while others become normal?
- When does patience become complicity?
- What happens when AI learns from standards we should have challenged instead?
- At what point does a society become too comfortable with failure?
- What have we quietly learned to tolerate?
- Which standards disappear without anyone noticing?
This book is built differently
Most books are written first. The arguments are challenged later. I’m reversing that process.
The central ideas behind Higher Standards are being tested in public long before the manuscript is finished. Through essays. Conversations. Keynotes. Research interviews. And criticism from people who disagree with me.
Some ideas become stronger. Some are rewritten. Some disappear completely.
If an argument doesn’t survive that process, it doesn’t belong in the book.

Who’s writing this
Suvianna Grecu advises boards, executives and public institutions on AI governance and strategic risk.
She has worked with senior policymakers through the European Commission Policy Lab, is a member of UNESCO Women4EthicalAI, and founded the AI for Change Foundation.
For years her work has centred on one question:
What happens when societies begin accepting what they should refuse?
Higher Standards is an attempt to answer it.
